Climbing on the Pale di San Martino is mostly on granite, porphyry and limestone rock.
The Pala group is the southernmost mountain range in the Dolomites and is partly located in the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino nature park.
Every climber has dreamt of tackling the Pale di San Martino group in the Dolomites. The solid, unstratified dolomite rock of the Pale seems to be expressly made for pleasant climbing. There are some beautiful classic routes (“Spigolo del Velo”, the Buhl route on Cima Canali, the Solleder route on Sass Maor).
With its wild jagged towers and very hard and grippy rock the Pale offers great climbing tours of medium difficulty.
The starting points are the small towns: San Martino di Castrozza or Fiera di Primiero.
the classic climbing route:
– cima della Madonna 2733 m: Schleierkante (spigolo del Velo) grade IV, max.V+; 400m.
– Sasso d’Ortiga 2631 m: Westkante (Wiessner/Kess 1928) grade IV/ V; 300m.
– Pala del Rifugio 2394 m: NW-Wand Frisch-Corradini (1967) grade V; 700 m.
