This glacier basic course on Marmolada achieves the objectives of our two day Glacier Mountaineering Course and includes an ascent of one of the most sought mountains in the Dolomites.
The course is held in the Dolomites on the Marmolada glacier on the mountain hut Pian dei Fiacconi.
Starting point:
from Canazei you arrives the Fedaiapass at 2057 m. You pass the Fedaia lake on the the dam and after two curves you arrive the parking place.
Programm glacier basic course Marmolada:
1st day:
Departure from the parking on path n° 606 to the refugio Pian dei Fiacconi at 2626 m. In about 1,30 h we arrive the hut, deposit the backpacks and we go to the glacier.
Now we start our exercises. The participants will learn ice axe and crampon use, practice crevasse rescue, travel on a rope team on ice, snow and rock, and much more. and learn how to use the crampons and iceaxt.
You will also review rock climbing skills such as rappelling, belaying, and movement on rock and snow.
2st day:
Today we climb the Marmolada at 3343 m. During the ascent, we will put the already learned into the practice.
On descent we practice the downfalls and how i can beware of this. Practical exercises: stand construction and crevasse rescue.
After a short rest on the refuge, we descend again into the valley.
Total ascent: 2,30 – 3 hours, 700m; descent 3 hours, 1300m.
